The construction of your bridge is about to get under way. Are your builders keen to show up for work? Do you know what motivates them? Is it money, or is it the pride of building something unique? Perhaps it’s the people they work with or the desire for external recognition.
While having a skilled workforce is important, it takes more than that to drive successful transformation. You need to use incentives to get everyone heading in the right direction and stop turf wars from breaking out.
In step 9, we talked about identifying competency gaps and helping people build new skills. You need to understand what makes everyone tick in order to make them feel unique and get them hooked.
Are your incentives driving accountability and ownership? They need to in order to avoid the chaos that comes from everyone pursuing their own personal interests. Make sure your incentives drive lasting impacts and don’t just create initial impressions.
